Product Overview
The ICS Triplex T8403 is a Trusted TMR digital input module designed for safety-critical industrial control systems. It forms part of the ICS Triplex Trusted platform, a fault-tolerant safety system widely used in Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and high-integrity process automation environments. The module receives discrete field signals from switches, sensors, and safety devices and transfers them to the Trusted controller for processing.
The module supports up to 40 digital input channels, allowing monitoring of multiple safety-related signals within a single rack slot. Each input channel is processed through a Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) architecture, meaning three independent circuits process the same signal simultaneously. A hardware voting mechanism compares results to eliminate errors and maintain system integrity even if one channel fails.
Designed for harsh industrial environments, the module provides electrical isolation, advanced diagnostics, and hot-swap capability. These features allow maintenance or replacement without shutting down the system. In safety-critical facilities such as refineries, offshore platforms, and power plants, the module ensures reliable signal acquisition for emergency shutdown, interlocking logic, and process safety monitoring.
Key Functions
Triple Modular Redundancy Signal Processing
Each input channel is processed through three independent circuits using a voting mechanism. This architecture eliminates single points of failure and maintains reliable operation even if one channel becomes faulty.
High-Integrity Digital Signal Acquisition
The module can monitor up to 40 digital inputs from field devices such as limit switches, emergency stop buttons, and process safety sensors. This enables centralized monitoring of safety-critical equipment.
Sequence of Events (SOE) Recording
The module records signal state changes with 1 ms time resolution. This allows engineers to analyze events precisely during fault investigations or safety system testing.
Advanced Diagnostics and Line Monitoring
Integrated diagnostics detect open circuits, short circuits, and module faults. Optional line monitoring provides early detection of wiring issues, improving system reliability and maintenance efficiency.
Online Hot-Swap Maintenance
The module can be replaced while the system remains operational. This capability reduces downtime and allows maintenance in high-availability control systems.
Application Scenarios
Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
In refineries, petrochemical plants, and LNG facilities, safety systems must detect abnormal conditions quickly. The module monitors signals from emergency shutdown devices and safety sensors.
Turbine and Power Plant Protection
Power generation equipment requires continuous monitoring of protective switches and status signals. The module collects these signals and ensures reliable input to turbine protection controllers.
Offshore Oil and Gas Platforms
Offshore installations require high-reliability control hardware. The module provides robust digital input monitoring for process shutdown systems and safety interlocks.
Chemical and Process Industry Interlocks
In chemical production plants, interlock systems prevent unsafe operating conditions. The module provides accurate digital input acquisition to ensure process safety logic functions correctly.
