Description
The HIMA X-AI 32 01 (Part Number 985210213) is a 32-channel high-density safety analog input module engineered for the HIMax programmable electronic system (PES). It safely acquires and evaluates analog transmitter loops—such as 4–20 mA and standard voltage signals—within safety instrumented systems (SIS). The module is certified up to SIL 3 (IEC 61508 / IEC 61511) and Performance Level e (EN ISO 13849-1), making it a standard component for Emergency Shutdown (ESD), High-Integrity Pressure Protection Systems (HIPPS), and Fire and Gas (F&G) deployments.

Hardware Architecture and Transmitters Integration
Channel Isolation and Grounding Topology
The 32 input channels share a common internal ground plane (AI−) that is galvanically isolated from the high-speed system backplane bus and the primary 24 V DC rack supply line. This design prevents field ground loops from generating cross-talk or corrupting low-voltage internal CPU processing logic.
Integrated Transmitter Power Supply Limits
The X-AI 32 01 provides native 26.5 V DC loop power directly to 2-wire and 3-wire field transmitters, eliminating external distribution blocks.
- Short-Circuit Management: The internal power network monitors and safeguards against physical short circuits. A maximum of 12 transmitter loops can sustain simultaneous short-circuit status without dropping the entire card.
- Overload Trip: If more than 12 loops short-circuit for a duration exceeding 3 seconds, the entire transmitter power subsystem initiates a thermal shutdown. The module attempts an automatic reset 30 seconds after the field overload condition clears.
Installation Mechanics and Regulatory Constraints
- Connector Board Matching: The X-AI 32 01 does not accept field wiring directly. It must seat into an approved connector board installed in the rack frame, such as the X-CB 008 01 (equipped with compression screw terminals) or the X-CB 008 03 (utilizing system cable plugs).
- System Cable Compatibility: For remote termination panel setups, connect using HIMA pre-fabricated system cables, specifically the X-CA 005 or X-CA 009 series. Refer to the OEM documentation to verify exact cable lengths and pinning layouts before routing lines.
- SIL 3 Fail-Safe State: Upon detecting a broken wire, field short circuit, or out-of-bounds signal variance (>22.5 mA), the safety logic forces the affected channel’s process value to the predefined fail-safe parameters configured in the SILworX programming tool. Mismatched safety parameters will block the module from completing its diagnostic self-test upon rack hot-insertion.
