Product Overview

The H201Ti is an online dissolved gas analysis (DGA) transmitter designed for continuous monitoring of transformer oil condition in power transmission and distribution systems. Developed by GE as part of the HYDRAN transformer monitoring family, the device measures key fault gases dissolved in transformer oil to provide early warning of insulation degradation or internal electrical faults.

Electrical transformers generate specific gases when internal components experience overheating, insulation breakdown, or electrical discharge. By continuously measuring the concentration of these gases, the transmitter helps utilities detect developing problems before they lead to catastrophic equipment failure. The device uses a composite fuel-cell gas sensor that responds strongly to hydrogen while remaining sensitive to other fault gases, making it effective for detecting a wide range of transformer fault conditions.

The transmitter mounts directly onto a transformer valve and uses dynamic oil sampling, eliminating the need for pumps or complex piping. Communication interfaces allow the gas readings and alarm status to be transmitted to monitoring systems, enabling integration with substation SCADA platforms or asset management systems for predictive maintenance and remote diagnostics.

Key Functions

Continuous Dissolved Gas Monitoring

The transmitter continuously measures the concentration of composite fault gases dissolved in transformer oil. This provides operators with real-time insight into transformer insulation health and internal fault development.

Early Fault Detection for Transformers

Hydrogen and other gases generated during electrical or thermal faults are detected at low concentrations. The monitoring system alerts operators before damage escalates, allowing preventive maintenance actions.

Dynamic Oil Sampling Technology

The device draws oil directly from the transformer valve using natural circulation. This design removes the need for external pumps or tubing, simplifying installation and improving long-term reliability.

Remote Communication and Data Integration

Serial communication interfaces allow gas readings and alarm signals to be transmitted to supervisory systems. This supports integration with SCADA, condition monitoring software, or transformer asset management platforms.

Local Display and Alarm Indicators

The unit includes an integrated display and configurable alarm thresholds. Operators can view gas values locally and receive alerts when concentrations exceed predefined limits.

Application Scenarios

Power Transmission Substations

Large power transformers in transmission networks require continuous health monitoring. The transmitter provides early warning of insulation failures or overheating inside transformer windings.

Utility Distribution Networks

Distribution transformers in substations and industrial plants can experience electrical stress and aging. Online gas monitoring helps utilities prevent unexpected outages.

Power Generation Facilities

Generators and auxiliary transformers in power plants must operate reliably. Monitoring dissolved gases helps maintenance teams detect developing faults before they impact generation capacity.

Industrial Power Systems

Industries such as steel, mining, and petrochemical processing rely on high-capacity transformers. Continuous gas monitoring supports predictive maintenance strategies and reduces the risk of costly downtime.
