Product Overview
The GE RS-FS-9001 is an ultraviolet flame detector designed for monitoring combustion processes in industrial turbines, boilers, and furnace systems. Developed by GE Reuter-Stokes, the device detects ultraviolet radiation generated by combustion flames, enabling real-time verification of flame presence and stability in high-temperature environments.
Industrial combustion systems must maintain continuous flame monitoring to prevent dangerous conditions such as fuel accumulation or burner misfires. This detector uses a silicon carbide photodiode sensor capable of detecting UV radiation emitted by flames with extremely fast response times. When a flame signal disappears, the sensor quickly communicates the condition to the control system, allowing the burner management or turbine protection system to trigger a safe shutdown if necessary.
The GE sensor is commonly installed in gas turbines, industrial boilers, and petrochemical furnaces where safety regulations require reliable flame verification. Its robust stainless-steel housing, sapphire window, and high-temperature tolerance make it suitable for harsh industrial environments where conventional sensors would fail.
Key Functions
Ultraviolet Flame Detection
The sensor detects UV radiation produced during combustion using a silicon carbide photodiode. This technology allows the device to identify flame presence even in environments with smoke, steam, or fuel mist.
Fast Flame-Loss Response
With a response time of less than 25 milliseconds, the detector rapidly signals flame extinction. This quick detection enables burner management systems or turbine protection systems to initiate safe shutdown procedures.
Industrial-Grade Signal Output
The module provides a standard 4–20 mA analog output signal compatible with PLC, DCS, and burner management systems. This interface allows seamless integration into existing industrial automation platforms.
Rugged High-Temperature Design
The stainless-steel housing and sapphire optical window provide durability in high-temperature combustion zones. The sensor can withstand harsh vibration, pressure, and thermal stress typical of turbine and furnace environments.
Application Scenarios
Gas Turbine Combustion Monitoring
In power generation turbines, flame detectors verify that combustion is stable during start-up and operation. The sensor helps ensure safe turbine ignition and prevents fuel accumulation inside the combustion chamber.
Industrial Boiler Safety Systems
Boiler burner management systems rely on flame detectors to confirm burner ignition. The device provides continuous flame verification and quickly signals abnormal conditions to the control system.
Petrochemical Furnace Monitoring
Refinery heaters and cracking furnaces operate with multiple burners. The detector monitors flame presence to maintain safe combustion and prevent hazardous fuel build-up.
Process Heating and Industrial Kilns
High-temperature kilns used in cement, steel, and chemical production require flame monitoring for safety and efficiency. The GE detector provides reliable flame detection even under harsh process conditions.
