Product Description
Product Overview
The ENTERASYS A2H124-24FX-RH is a stackable Layer-2 managed Ethernet switch designed for high-density fiber-optic networking in industrial automation, enterprise infrastructure, and distributed control systems. It belongs to the SecureStack A2 series developed by Enterasys Networks, which is now part of Extreme Networks.
The switch provides twenty-four 100Base-FX fiber ports, allowing reliable long-distance communication between network devices in environments where electromagnetic interference or physical distance makes copper connections unsuitable. This design makes it particularly suitable for industrial control networks, campus infrastructure, and facility-wide fiber deployments.
In addition to the fiber interfaces, the switch includes Gigabit uplink ports and SFP expansion slots that allow flexible connection to aggregation switches or core network infrastructure. These uplink ports can also function as stacking interfaces, enabling multiple switches to operate as a unified logical system for simplified network management.
Advanced Layer-2 networking features such as VLAN segmentation, Quality of Service (QoS), and spanning-tree protocols ensure stable traffic management and redundancy. The integrated redundant power capability further enhances network availability, making the switch suitable for mission-critical communication systems where continuous operation is required.
Key Functions
High-Density Fiber-Optic Connectivity
The switch provides 24 Fast Ethernet fiber ports that support long-distance communication and immunity to electromagnetic interference. This capability is essential for connecting devices across large facilities or electrically noisy environments.
Stackable Switching Architecture
Multiple switches can be stacked through the Gigabit ports, forming a unified switching platform. This architecture simplifies network administration while increasing port capacity and redundancy.
Advanced Layer-2 Traffic Management
Support for VLAN, QoS prioritization, and spanning-tree protocols allows network administrators to control traffic flows, isolate broadcast domains, and maintain network stability during link failures.
Secure Network Access Control
The switch supports authentication and secure management protocols such as SNMP, SSH, and 802.1X port authentication. These security mechanisms help protect industrial networks from unauthorized access.
Flexible Network Expansion
SFP uplink slots allow administrators to install different fiber transceivers depending on distance and bandwidth requirements, enabling adaptable network design.
Application Scenarios
Distributed Control System (DCS) Networks
Industrial plants often deploy fiber networks to connect controllers, operator stations, and remote I/O systems. The switch provides reliable communication infrastructure for DCS platforms.
Factory Automation and Industrial Ethernet
Manufacturing environments with high electromagnetic interference benefit from fiber-optic communication. The switch ensures stable connectivity between PLCs, robots, and supervisory systems.
Campus and Facility Fiber Networks
Large campuses and industrial sites require fiber-based connections between buildings. The switch enables high-density fiber aggregation for backbone connectivity.
Power and Substation Automation
Power generation plants and substations rely on deterministic network communication for protection relays, monitoring equipment, and SCADA systems. The switch supports these critical communication networks.
