Description
The pressure head of ABB’s Millmate PFRL101C-1.0KN 3BSE023316R1002 strip tension measurement system is based on the renowned Pressductor® magnetostrictive effect, which was patented in 1954. According to this principle, the magnetic properties of steel are affected by mechanical forces.
There are four holes inside the sensor. Two coils are wound together through these holes. One coil is applied alternating current, and the other coil serves as the measuring coil. Since the two coils are perpendicular to each other, there will be no magnetic coupling between them as long as there is no load on the sensor.

PFRL101C-1.0KN 3BSE023316R1002 If there is a load on the sensor, the magnetic field characteristics will change. The magnetic permeability of steel will decrease in the direction of force application and increase in the vertical direction. This causes a change in the symmetry of the magnetic flux, and part of the magnetic flux will induce an induced voltage in the secondary side coil. The induced voltage is proportional to the load.
ABB’s unique magneto-compression ® technology makes the Mini series pillow pressors exceptionally sturdy, enabling them to withstand a wide range of working conditions.
The Pressductor ® circular indenter PFRL101 is a radial force sensor of the ABB Pressductor series. Its core is used for real-time tension measurement and closed-loop control in coil processing, suitable for harsh working conditions and covering multiple industrial fields of the ABB Group. The following are specific application scenarios:
Core application fields and scenarios
Papermaking: Monitoring of paper tension in the drying section of the paper machine, the winding machine, and the rewinding machine to ensure the flatness of the paper sheet and the stability of the basis weight, suitable for high-humidity and paper lint dust environments ABB Group.
Plastic films: Extrusion, stretching, slitting and lamination of BOPP, PET and other films, controlling tension to ensure uniform thickness and neat winding, compatible with high-speed production lines ABB Group.
Printing and packaging: Tension control of the substrate for flexographic and gravure printing machines to prevent misregistration and material wrinkling, suitable for ink contamination and high-speed roll changing scenarios ABB Group.
